When I upload a certain page from my local server to my remote server, only some images will appear when I try to access this page in my browser. Could it be that the images are too large? (97K for 1 image, 4 images on the page)

Admittedly, I am a complete novice with Dreamweaver so would appreciate any possible help.

either that or the images aren't on the server.

97k is far too large for a general display. 4 on a page makes the load time for that page aroung 5 mins on a 56k dial up. most visitors have an issue with waiting 20 secs if they don't know what they are getting.

Chris.

Indifference will be the downfall of mankind, but who cares?

I dont know how your site is organised, but you should have your html/htm files on one folder and your images on another folder. Then drag your images from your images folder into the html page. Make sure that you keep the same structure on your server having the same two folders on your server...

I got the same problem, but on my machine, not on a remote server, the thing is that I am building a slide show presentation for an oral exam I have in a couple of days. the thing is that I want to illustrate something by opening an html page from the swf. When I preview my page in dreamweaver, it's cool, everything work and all my pictures are present... but when I double click on my html page in windows explorer, no picture will show, just their placeholders (with the small cross...). I've checked everything, nothing has moved, there is a correct path and picture name for each picture, quite surprising? and I already had this problem with some background images that show up in Netscape but not in IE......

Does anybody have a clue on any 'debugging procedure' of any kind?

Thanks

ok, I've found the solution to my problem, and this might help you wontieva. ok, i rechecked the path to the pictures and noticed that dreamweaver had added an extra "/" to all my links, so instead of "imagefolder/image.ext" the links were "/imagefolder/image.ext"........ (in my case the image folder is at the same level as the html page)

95% of the time the answer is standing right in front of you. :p

hope it help you.

Hi,

For the future, if I have a problem like this I right click on the picture on the browser (or the red cross) and then look at the properties. This shows you where the browser is looking for the picture.

Yo, just another thing,

when you insert images into your page from then file browser popup window, make sure you select a "document relative path", not a "site root relative path", actually that the 'incredibly stupid' mistake I did! ;-)

Good luck for the rest of your project!

You have to make a separate image folder for you pictures. Then you must put images into that folder. Then you must upload that new image or the whole folder everytime you add a new picture. You must "put" the folder onto the remote site.
