I was just curious does anyone know why the 400 series cabinet was replaced with the 500 series V2 cabinet? I would think they would have just continued to build on the same platform and just keep releasing new software versions? I mean it looks like the entire design of the cabinet even the color and faceplate was changed.

The white cabinet seems to have more of a style to it rather than this black box. You can hardly see the AVAYA logo on it. It just looks like any old switch.

Does anyone know the history behind this change?

Thank you!

I like the way the BCM50 was designed for either a rack or easy to install plastic wall mounts and the modules just slid inside. They looked great and were pretty easy to access. You could place one right next to the other nice and neat because there was a tab that stuck out so the next bracket fit the next one. The front had indicators to show it all was ok GREEN.

Also it looked like a phone system and not a switch so the IT guys would not mess with it. I don;t like the telco equipment intertwined with the IT stuff.

There is Telco land and there is IT land.

What is wrong with wall mounting is expansion. You have to trick the brackets to make them fit, and the exp cables get too short for the second exp and you have to use patch cords.

Can you elaborate more on the method in which you creatively use to wall mount the expansion module,
I may in the very near future be presented with this task and the provide bracket certainly seem only attachable for the main chassis.
In the illustrated diagram above,are you using this type or another for expansion module.

@Infonaut:
Use a wall mounted cabinet/frame and rack mounts for the chassis.

Price is less than $50 for an open frame like this:

I put two exp cabinet face to face using a single kit of IPO bracket; one screw each. If I have an odd number of cabs I use two bottom brackets from 2 kits and fit the cab in snuggly. No need for cooling since the P/S is external. Not good looking, but had to make do. Plus the ground cable is a good way to make sure your boxes are well fixed.

Since then I have managed to convince our sales dept to use an 8U wall mount for installs with one to 3 exp cabs; more than that is 12U/H frame ect. Saves a ton of space for customer, time for install, for less than 1℅ the value of the job.

Thing I hate though on those is the numbering of the ports on both sides... Why not make it 1-16, and 17 to 30 left and right respectively? It makes a mess of putting it on 25 pairs through bix

Why not meet half way? TIT-land.

"I work with TIT's. You know, rack's and things that goes in them, mostly silicon based technology" [smile]
