Why use Citrix?

Forgive me for the extreme newbie question. I have never used Citrix but I am an IT Manager who is looking into Citrix as a possible solution for my company. No matter what documents I read online or who I speak to, no one seems to be able to answer a very basic question: Is there a benefit to using Citrix over "Remote Desktop Connection" or "Terminal Services"? Or maybe even more basic than that: what are the differences between Citrix and Terminal Services?

I just started a new job working at a company who relies very heavily on an ERP system. Most of our Sales team are located all over the world. They all need to use this ERP system as a part of their job. So what they currently have is a Terminal Server here that a dozen people connect to all day everyday, and they launch the ERP system on one of the servers here in order to use it. But a dozen people using the one computer to launch a processor and network intensive program do all of this is incredibly slow.

I was wondering what Citrix is because I wonder if it would help our situation at all. Citrix SOUNDS like Remote Desktop to me, but no one can really tell me the difference between Remote Desktop and Citrix so that I can figure out whether Citrix might be a better option. I've been researching on the Internet to get answers, but all of the explanations of Citrix sound like you can just replace the word "Citrix" with the word "Terminal Services" or "Remote Destop Connection".

Can anyone take a moment to explain or point me a good direction?

Thank You!
