Why use a pre-loader? Thanks!

Hi, there

would you help me understand why we need to use the pre-loader for Flash movie? We have a 3mb video embeded in Flash. Shall we develop a pre-loader?

The purpose of the preloader is that without it a movie will start playing even though it is not fully loaded - for apps this is not such a big deal but is more of a big deal for animations as they will look choppy - but a preloader by default is a good idea...
