Hi,

Very new to these forums and we have just decided (company wise) to go ahead and license software for our next big project. One problem is I am the one developing it, since I've developed several other apps at my job mainly in access and VB. I want to know if going with progress was a good decision? How about its easiness / difficulty? I know dealing with access was quite simple, and Im fairly well with VB. On dec 2nd we will be getting the license along with some sports db...whatever tht means. I was wondering can anyone point me out to some books / tutorials / any info that helps me with using progress. I've been on there site and its rather large with not too much help...I hope this wasnt a bad mistake..we were just going to go with SQL Server..but we decided to go with progress.

Any help is appreciated,

Jon

Here is a link to Progress CBT, which you may have already seen.

C:\Documents and Settings\stevec\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKE\Computer-Based Training Training Options Education Progress Software.htm

We found it to be pricey for cbt. There is also a website /firm in FL which has some education on Progress db. You should be able to drill down in Progress website, education to locate it via their training.

I don't recall anything bookwise for it, but you try the usual - amazon, ebay, etc. Don't expect much, afterall it's not Oracle or Access.

Post anything you may find.
Good Luck

I have been using Prgress for the last 3 years and have found it very easy to use, but at times a bit limited (being a 4GL). The best place to start for information is from here you can also access the Progress Webring.

The Sports DB that you mention is an example Database that comes with Progress and most of the examples etc you find on the web are based on this.

If your company gets the complete PSDN (Progress Software Developers Network) license, then there is a lot of information and examples included. Even with just a standard developers license you get a CD full of documentation, which should help greatly.

Just looking at you post and you should actually have the license etc by now, so have a look through the Dynatext documentation and you should find all you want.

Hope this helps mate,
Cya.
