For the life of me I can't figure out why this phone doesn't ring. I've tried different sets (which I know are working fine) and they don't ring either. Anybody got any ideas?

I would look to a ring generator card in the IPE shelf. If there is none, no phones will ring.

If you don't have a ring generator then move modem lines that dial out to that IPE and reprogram the phones/faxes to IPE shelves that have a ring generator card.

two question i would ask myself

do other phones on that card ring, if yes change the port

do other phones on that shelf ring (analog). if no, replace the ring gen on that shelf

there is not a class mark for ring allow on an analog, just digital.. that means it's got to be hardware

Looking outside the switch, maybe the phone is bad?? Depending on what kind of phone it is, would a reversed pair make any difference?

never saw an analog that a rev killed the ringer. back in the old days it could change the phone number. but that was a while back

Hi
Sorry it may sound stupid to ask, but did you test the unit on the MDF cable termination , without been wired (on the first cross-connecting board) forward to the telephone position?
Cause sometimes it can happens that the you got some bad connection or "water" on the cables somewhere along the line and it's cause this kind of faults, it happebs a lot with me, especially in old building or distant telephone stations.

Sorry about some mistakes in my writting english, some terms and words I don't remember in english.

Hey, I'm the one looking for help so I'm not really in a position to call you stupid !! I have no idea how to patch a telephone directly into the MDF though. How would I go about doing that? You mgiht be onto something there, because another user here is complaining that sometimes when she terminates her calls they don't get terminated at the PBX - which I think might be down to cabling between here and our comms room.

Do other analog phones on that same card ring????

If they do work, then you have a bad TN PORT mov the phone from that bad TN to another one.

Yes gmail2,
But an analog unity has two different sources and circuits, DC and AC and the ACit's for the ringing of the phone, and like I told before the AC(alternate tension) can "escape" through the cables or in the cross-connecting especially when is humid. Or the other case is that specific unity has the inging circuit F... it's very common ...
So if cannot do the test with a phone on the "comm room" more precise on the BIX connector ... it's difficult to say which one is the problem.

Yes, other phones on the same card ring

I can check from the Comm's room by patching into the relevant VL port - do you think that would help? But I don't know how to patch directly into the MDF frame though. I've seen engineers from the phone company do it, but that's all. I'll try patching into the VL port tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. If it doesn't, do you think it's worth moving the TN to a differnet VL port?

If other phones ring on that card, then the port is BAD, So move it.
