why does the text wrap affect more than one layer?

I have a text-wrap in layer 1. Its text around a picture.. basic stuff. Now I want to put more text below the picture but I cant (it interfears with the textwrap). So i make another layer and put the text just below the photograph, but it wont get in. looks like the textwrap on layer 1 interfears with text on layer 2. why is this? When I try with a picture it seems ok, but not with text.. what am I doing wrong herer?

Try selecting a layer and selecting Layer Options from the little triangle on the layers pallette. You'll see "Lock layer" and "Suppress text wrap when layer is hidden".

Text wrap can span layers.

'Object menu->Text Frame Options' will allow you to ignore text wrap on that particular text frame.
