Good afternoon all,
I've got a network with approx 80 servers ( NT4 & W2K - NOT active directory ) and 600 users. All PC's obtain their IP addresses from DHCP and logon to the Domain quite happily. However, we update all our clients remotely via network neighbourhood and I noticed that none of our laptop users ( approx 130 ) are appearing under the Domain. They are definitely there, they login to the domain and you can map a drive to them etc. but they do not appear in the list. Has anyone any idea what I can do to add them ? or what changes need to be made to the laptops ? are they not "announcing their prescence" etc ?
Any contributions will be appreciated.

On the WINS tab be sure to set them to Use NETBIOS over TCP/IP.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark

If you run a separate image on laptops vs. workstations, you may want to assure that the laptops are broadcasting names to populate Network Neighborhood.

Command Prompt on the laptop, type: "Net Config Server" and look at the output to see if it's hidden. If it is, type "Net config server /hidden:no" and they will begin to populate.

Definitely check Marc's thought first though!

Hi Guys

When I did a net config server it told me that I had 10 users logged onto my workstation. Doesn't make sense
What is the purpose of this command?

You're looking at "maximum logged on users". Look up one line "Server HIdden" and see if it says Yes or No.
