why do i have to right click everything to open it?

Hey guys i am not too familiar with windows 98 and have a quick question.

I have a friend that when he wants to open any program or file he cannot do it by double clicking on the icon, he has to right click then select open in order to open it. This happens on the desktop and anywhere else i can think of.

I did check the mouse settings and all seem fine and the mouse is recognized without probem.

was curious has this happened to any of you ? and if it has, how was it resolved?

When you right click on the file, is 'Open' in bold? (i.e. the default action for double clicking)

As for the mouse double click settings, when you go to the settings and try double clicking the test area does it work there?

Did you try making the double click really sensitive, apply it, then change it back to normal and reapply it?

Could also try reinstalling the mouse drivers if you have them. If not, there are lots of generic drivers that should work.

thanks will have my frient try these steps when i see him on tuesday. by the way when i right click on the icon yes open is in bold letters, will look into drivers though.
