I am trying to figure out why some computers don't always report themselves in WSUS. I have several computers that report some days, then don't report on others.

Some of the computers in the domain haven't actually been online, as they were either shutdown completely, or not on the network at all, but the ones that should always be online are not reporting all the time.

What would be some reasons for this?

In addtion, is there a way to check the windowsupdate.log file on individual computers without having to physically walk up and touch each of them? Is there a utility that would query computers in a computer group then export the log files?

Were the computers imaged?

I have this same problem. The only computers that check in are staff computers that have never been imaged.

Hi

Did you run sysprep on them before they were imaged? If not you might need to run NewSID so WSUS can tell the stations appart. Test it on one box and see what happens, you might need to force a WSUS client to update after as well.

From CMD prompt
wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

NewSID

You could try running wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow first on a client but i suspect they will just keep replacing each other on the WSUS server as they have the same SID.

porkchopexpress you are the man. All computers had the same sid. I ran newsid, and ran wuauclt.exe in the cmd prompt and it worked. Thanks a lot!!

No probs.

it sucks that you guys know so dang much about this stuff...stop it or at least answer a question wrong once in a while :)...i haven't had this problem yet, but I know I will at some point down the road, so here's a star for you...keep up the good work mayn.

at the school i work at, we have about 230 computers. For some reason, running the newsid program worked on 210 of them. I ran the newsid program plus the detectnow command over a week ago. When running the newsid program, I noticed that computers were getting the newsid. anybody have any clue why this is happening.

Are you saying that 20 stations still don't show up?
