A had a test sun server, which went down.

How can I find out why it went down?

Solaris9

Thanks.

Try running "dmesg" to see if you have any "panic" messages. Also see if there are any files in /var/crash/<nodename>. If there are core files in this directory, it may indicate some kind of kernel problem with the server.

Had a look, can't find any clues.

Plus a directory, /opt/shared has vanished!

Is /opt/shared a NFS mount? Check in file /etc/auto_direct or /etc/vfstab to see if there is an entry.

/opt/shared was a local directory

Hello Iqbal7,
Has your system crashed before or is this the first time? When was it previously rebooted (last reboot| head -2), was it running slowly? Have you enough resources (vmstat -2) or has something changed recently. What o/s are you running? There are many questions you should ask...these are just a few.

It was a power cut!

As to the vanishing /opt/shared dir , no idea.#
