Why cant xp do this?

Do what?

Plug in 2 drives to usb. Copy files from
1 drive to the other.


Many here will say it can. But I'm talking about real use drives, with thousands of files.

Always hangs.

Well, it may not be the USB copying that's going bad. What are the system specs that you're copying from? It could be that you're filling up the system memory and causing the file copy to error out.

So...my question is, how large are the files you're trying to copy over? And does this behaviour occur when you try and copy over smaller chunks?
 
Try it with a powered USB 2.0 hub. I think you run short of power using the notebook ports.
 
It can be done, as I have done it myself. Are the drives powered by the USB themself?

I used an external USB Hub, and it was fine.
