when ever i want to listen to anything it will play, but with no sound. my computer was running really slow so i put in the win98SE cd in to start over. it worked pretty good except for the sound issues

hope someone can help me.

check all connections, and check all software controls. Go into Sounds in Control Panel and make sure that the volume is up and nothing is muted. There may be a sound icon in the lower right part of the screen. Double click it and make sure nothing is muted and volume is up.

Still no sound re-seat the sound card. Shut down first and pull the plug.

there wasn't any volume thing in the lower right hand corner so i searched it and found volume control. then i double clicked it and it wouldn't pop up. everytime i try to play a video clip it says:

Cannot play back the audio stream: no audio hardware is available.

It sounds like you have to reinstall the sound drivers. Do you have on-board sound or a sound card?

does anyone know the driver for my sound card so i can reinstall it and see if that works

Jesse,

You need to figure out your sound card driver by either going to the web to find it based on your brand name computer or you need to physically look up the sound card in your computer if it's desktop.

Did your pc come with a driver disk? What brand/model pc is it?

if it came with one i don't have it.... my computer is a compaq presario 5062

there wasn't anything about sound on the list... is there anyother way to get sound? i'll do anything-- except buying something--:)

if you can't find it, I would email HP/Compaq tech support and ask them....

Ooops... sorry, did not read before I posted...

anyways, try the TRIAL version of EVEREST Ultimate, it will tell you all about the installed HARDWARE and offer LINKS to the manufacturers, incase it does not post the SoundChip/Card here and we will direct you to the correct driver...

Hola,in the left hand pane expand COMPUTER, then SUMMARY...

in the right hand pane it should start listing the computer parts, scroll down to MULTIMEDIA and there the SOUND CHIP should be listed... with that then post it here...
