Can someone tell me how to reduce the file size in InDesign?

Only half a magazine is slow clunky 50 MB file !

In Quark it would only be 4 MB.

Thanks,
jaima

Try saving the document as an InDesign Interchange file and then see how big that file is.

Are you saying that Quark's file size would be only 4 MB if it was done in Quark 4? Quark 6 would also make a large file size.

The increased file size in InDesign is due to better (larger) preview images and more undo/history information.

Are your files linked or embedded, if they are embedded the indesign file will be much larger. Is your Display Performance set to High Quality? If so set it to Typical or Optimized for better performance. I switched from Quark to Indesign some time ago and I don't recall there being a big difference in performance or file size.

Try this - Check your file size then do a "Save As" and either overwrite the original or rename & save - you'll see the file size drop dramatically.

Thanks for the tips guys - I also have to start work on a magazine soon.

But yeah, I think I've encountered a similar prob with a large annual report in the past. The "save as" technique worked for me in the past.
