Hi

I have been having problems for months, some that I have posted about here, constant freezes, crashes to the blue screen etc.

I have reinstalled (repair install) 3 times previously and seem little or no improvement.

Finally for no reason that I really understood this is what I did and it worked.

I went into msconfig and turned off all the services, and most of the startup items(after hiding the Microsoft ones).

I rebooted and then created a new user id.

I rebooted again and reinstalled Windows (repair install again) using the new user id.

Once that was done I found that a few of my programs such as Adobe Illustrator CS3 had to be reinstalled but most of my apps ran fine. The only thing that didn’t want to reinstall was Net Framework but I found fix for that at Microsoft.

I switched back and forth between the old and the new id to recover my favorites, address book, e-mail folders etc. By having the old id available nothing got lost.

Once everything was working I deleted the old id and updated Windows.

I am happy to report that my computer runs better then it has for years, no glitches, or freezes it runs like I formatted it and did a total install. Everything on my computer is running better.

I just thought I would post this so that if someone is having problems they can give this a try. Obviously something in my configuration was bad but I could never figure out what.

Hope this helps someone else.

Mike

Thanks for posting back, so someone may benefit from your efforts. It is easy to format and reinstall, but to find a solution is much wiser & harder the satisfaction is more rewarding.
