Hi all,

I wonder if you could help? I'm looking for some information on published journals or white papers on the history of Point of Sale Software and the current state. I'm researching the viability of porting an existing POS product for hospitality sector into a Cloud based solution.

Regards

I will say that porting an existing piece of software into a cloud version is never really a good idea.. should do it from the ground up. I've seen a lot of the ported software, and it is always ugly and usually pretty glitchy (see: Simphony 1 which is a port of 9700).

Thanks very much for your response.

Are there any articles you know of on the 9700 port to Simphony 1? Can't come across any indepedent reviews on Google

To be honest, I would very much doubt there are going to be a lot of articles out there on the Web. There are several POS magazines you could try searching through, if you can find them. I don't really follow it though, and it isn't really something you'll see in the mainstream.

It really is surprising just how much of the information about POS systems is either word of mouth, contained within private groups like the MICROS Yahoo! Group, or requires that you have to be apart of the parent company to hear about it. I've been doing some searches, and beyond a few blurbs where they are mentioned in passing, it is hard to find any real news about Point of Sales systems; even harder to find news published by third parties, rather than the POS company itself.

Ya Im finding that too. Hard to believe considering how wide spread their use is
