Hello - My new PC is great, but has 1 annoying characteristic.

The 60 GB IDE drive spins at 7200 RPM. Manufactured by IBM. It makes a noticeable high-pitch wheeze/whistle that is constant.

Just wondering from others: Is it common for the 7200s
to do this? It is definitely not the fan making the noise.

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks, John

I hear what you're saying. I have two of them on a IBM 704 server and they are high pitched. There's nothing you can really do about it. I believe the HD wasn't really ment for a PC, but rather a server.
