We are currently piloting Mitel's VoIP solution at my work, and the Cisco TAC guy is asking me a few questions in order to configure some type of QoS support. Can anyone help me out?

1) Which UDP ports do the Mitel VOIP phone use for voice (rtp) traffic?
2) Which TCP ports are used for call signaling?

A list of TCP/UDP ports this is not an exhaustive list but should be enough for you.

6900 TCP Control channel to 3300 RTC
9000 UDP Speech channel 1 RX
9002 UDP Speech channel 2 RX
10000 UDP Speech Channel 1 TX
10002 UDP Speech Channel2 TX

I actually got a hold of my Mitel support guy and he tole me:

1) RTP traffic port range is 50000-50127.
2) Call signaling ports are 9000 and 90002.

I didn't catch it earlier, but the Cisco guy said the call signaling ports were TCP, but the Mitel guy gave me UDP answers?!?!

the signalling ports are TCP the actual voice or audio ports are UDP...no sense in delaying packets cause you're waiting for a acknoledge receipt response..

Thanks for everyone's responses so far, but I still need a clear and definitive answer for #2. Just as Mitelpassion pointed out, the signaling ports are TCP, NOT UDP like the Mitel guy suggested. In other words, the ports for call signaling are not 9000 and 9002.

The ports i gave you earlier are from a mitel document i have. So they must be right.

Darren found some more ports for you.

UDP 69 and 20001 for TFTP
TCP 3998 for SACS
TCP 3999 for SAC
TCP 6800-6802 for Minet and Secure Minet
UDP 50000-50255 and 9000-9002 for Voice Media

Hope this helps

ianuk1974,

Thanks again for your help. I've been reading throughout my Mitel documentation too, and it seems that the VoIP stuff is basically broken down into 2 parts:
a) voice traffic which is UDP
b) and call signaling which is TCP

From what I gathered, the voice traffic ports are probably just 9000 and 9002 like you suggested. I will also add UDP 69 and 20001 for TFTP as well since the phones like to connect to the Mitel 3000 each and everytime they boot up.

As for the call signaling, Mitel's RTC uses their proprietary MiNET and MiTAl socket for call signaling. So, according to my documentation,

MiNET Server is TCP 6800
MiNET Client is TCP 6900-6999.

I am just not sure if I need to use all the porst you listed since I really don't want to complicate my Cisco config and to be honest, don't know what they are. I have no clue what SAC or SACs are?!?

I'll post my Cisco config soon to show you guys what I have so far....
