I'm trying to decide which barcode symbology to go with for our warehouse. Ideally, i'd like to be able to label cases/containers with both the stock# as well as the quantity. Is that possible to code within one scan? If so, which symbology should i go with? Doesn't code128 support this ability?

Moreover, can't i also code in the "tab" function within the label as well?

Mucho thanks

If we expect the unexpected, does that make the unexpected... well, expected?

You can embedd spaces into 3 of 9 code, I've done that in the past. Then you just have to make your reader app separate the two values.

I'm not sure on tab though. So long as your stock number is a contiguous string you shouldn't have any problem using a space.

What industry are you in?
Are you shipping the cartons/containers, or
is it material you use internally?

Sorry I should have mentioned in the previous email. I work for a gaming company (casinos) and we use the barcodes on our direct mail pieces. The codes include account number, prize amounts, etc. The format we use is probably not useful for you due to industry standards.
