I know we have talked about this before, but I can't find the previous thread. I want to setup remote soft phone users on IP Office R11. I understand in need remote worker license or power user license, but which software to download? is it the latest IP Office Soft Console software? I want to use the phones without having to build OneXPortal. Thank you.

Where is that software located? is it a separate download on is it one the R11 install CD. I cannot seem to find it.

separate download

on the support website go to downloads and type IX workplace into the search then download 3.8.x (the highest version)

Thanks. They can use this without having to sign up for an Avaya Spaces account, right?

I found the software but it is confusing me. It is prompting to go to meeting or my account. Just to be clear, they want to run this software on their desktop PC's within the office. This way when they are out of the office they can log into their PC's and use the software to make and receive phone calls. If anyone has a cheat sheet or additional information I would appreciate it. I am also willing to pay some tech support fees for help.

thx

running it in the office when they are out will not help you because the audio is on the PC in the office.

You can VPN into the network and use it from the Laptop or use TLS with certificates and firewall port forwarding to have them use it on their cell or laptop (or any desktop that is outside their network.

You WILL need a user licenses (Power user license) to make it work. without the user licenses you cannot use a softphone.

Once IX is installed usually manual setup with a webaddress is what I do then enter the address of the system ( Address)
you will need to have a self signed certificate and install that into the Laptop or cell phone you want to use.
iPhones with newer os than (I think) R11 will refuse self signed certs.

IX is a learning curve in itself I tell you. I install them now for a while and something new comes up all the time that makes me scratch my head.

You can Use IX Workplace on a desktop, laptop, or Tablet with Office Worker License.
If you plan on using IX Workplace on a mobile device, you will need a PowerUser License.

To configure the device on your desktop, install it and launch it. The default option to is confuse via email, but you need to configure Spaces for that.

If you not using spaces, you need hi the sprocket icon, and choose Web address.
Enter the http or https url to the IP Office 46xxsettings.txt file.
http;//x.x.x.x/46xxsettings.txt

The software will pull the file, and ask you to login with your Extension, and your password
Your password is not the same as your phone pin. Make sure you enter the correct one.

the password is not the login in password, but rather the password that is defined in the first field for the user right?

They have the power user licenses, and they are convinced that they will be able to use them from their internal desktops when the login in remotely using logmein.

thank you for the information. I will work on those steps you guys have outlined and post back to you.

Now I forgot to mention I have a second customer that wants to use the softphone remotely through their VPN. Seems everyone is trying to figure out how to not come into the office, right? This customer has people using a VPN from their laptops from home. They have power user licenses.

Any configuration tips there?

I appreciate all the help.

Zane

That is correct. The Password is the User Pass word you specified.

Real time voice communications over a Logmein session sounds like a bad idea.

VPN, or proper Remote Worker config is the way to go.

If you do not have a session boarder controller, the the Not recommended, but "works for me", is going with simple port forwarding.
You need to be sure to configure the SIP Security to only allows Avaya Clients, and also for good measure use a port other than the standard 5060. This will greatly reduce the amount of fraudulent registration attempts.

If everyone has PowerUser licences then they can have the client running on both their laptop and mobile phone. No issues there.

Also just to comment on the self singed certs issue.. not a problem, just make sure the expire date is not greater than 2 years, or IOS and Android will not accept them.

Travis,

I agree with your assessement of the logmein feature. I made sure when the customer asked for this, that I put in a disclaimer. We will just have to see. Their IT company is not very top notch. The other client seems to have their stuff in order so we will see. I appreciate the help and input very much!

LogMeIn to their desktops will NOT work - LMI will connect remote speakers, but not microphone.

tommy,

that is good to know, but unfortunate. Looks like they will be needing to to use the application from home and connect via VPN to their IP Office then, correct?

You don't need to vpn to the IPO. They will need a vpn client that connects their laptop from home to the office network. They can then launch the soft phone from their laptop and connect to the IPO. The soft phone will run on their laptop, not on their office computer.

I gather some features only work with Aura and not IP Office although it may not be clear in the docs,

just following up on this post.

All the client wants to do is run the softphone from their laptops. So is power user licensing a bit of overkill? Should I just get remote worker licensing instead?

You need office worker License. Not Power.

If your users are ONLY user workplace, it appears you can do this with a basic user license.
Look at the table for basic user. You can use IX Workplace in Stand Alone Mode

Standalone Mode
In this mode, Avaya IX Workplace Client is the user's sole telephony device whilst they are logged into it. Logging into Avaya IX Workplace Client will log them off any other extension. Similarly, logging on at another phone will log them out of Avaya IX Workplace Client.

Standalone Mode does not require OfficeWorker or PowerUser, but you won't get Presence or IM. It will just be a phone...This mode only works on essential edition.

Is the Avaya IX workplace only available on R11, or does it run on R10 too. From what the documents are telling me, stand alone mode is what they need. I also need some help configuring the setup. When I open up the Avaya IX, I don't see any options to tell it how to connect to the IP Office???
