i am stuck between a couple services that will put my website out there to the world...

SureList with Verisign
bCentral Submit with MSN
1 2 3 Submit with Hypermart

I know there are alot of them out there, offering submission to over 1 million site, yada yada yada...

I have narrowed it down to the surelist or bcentral, although as money allows, i'll end up listing with both.

any ideas or experiences with either?

Lycos Altavista Google the more you pay the higher up you
may get. If you want get to the top ten be prepared to
pay for the top ten even the top 50. With the different
services out there there's no guarantees where you will be ranked. Most of these services will just submit every 6
months or so. The same thing you can do. Just make sure before you spend your money that you know what you are getting for your money.BTW what kind of site is it.

a credit card site...

This is quote from MSN
"Web Pages Submit
Commercial sites may be submitted at no charge for inclusion in the Web Pages section of MSN Search. Sites in the Web Pages section will be ranked below sites that are submitted via the paid submission service and will not be included in the MSN directory. There is no guarantee of acceptance or turnaround time for these submissions."
They get 15 cents per click-through
I'm sorry but I just don't trust any of the paid services.
And with all CC sites out there and all the spam mail I get
for CC's I hope you all the best. I hope you generate enough
sales to pay these submission sites.

do it yourself. It is not a hard thing to do. every engine will have a add your url link to it for indexing a site in it. It can be time consuming but it's free. excluding yahoo and others that charge now. most of the submission sites that offer per say 1000+ engines are submitting to no name engines that will not bring you that much revenue anyways. In doing it yourself you can do the work to find out which ones your site will benifit from the most and then you can index them for that reason instead of a simple high number of engines.

hope that helps A language that doesn't affect the way you think about programming is not worth knowing.

My advice: GET IN DMOZ.ORG!! Loads of sites use the dmoz.org database so if your in there you will appear accross thousands of sites including: msn search, google, yahoo, lycos and others Regards

Hi guys,

I'm a firm believer in manual submission rather than auto submission for the large engines, the smaller ones can be covered by an auto submitter without a problem.

The biggest thing to make sure that you do, no matter what method you choose is to optimise your site so that you get as many visitors for free, even if you do pay for certain engines.

Hope this helps Wullie

Hi

Web site subission is as has bben said hit and miss and no one regardless of how much you pay will guarantee you a position.

However there are certain things which can help your position in the engines.

1. If you use java links make sure somewhere on each page you use href spiders dont like java.

2. Make sure all your links are viable all the time.

3. Make sure your title and keywords relate to page content and don't over repeat them it's classes as spam.

4. Choose keywords well after all search engines work because peopleput in a search word. ie eczema might be accurate but skin condition might work better.

5. Link to other sites if possible

6. Buy software and submit yourself

7. Check your keywords every few months and modify

8. Check the keywords your competitors use

9. Check the site regularly for errors.

10. The best of luck cos we all do this.

11. Remember rude words can prohibit you from engines.
for example scunthorpe is a town get it? do you need a hint? look at the letters so scunthorpe will be rejected by some search engines as sdult

12. If you are going world wide try to ensure that words and logos/pictures will not offend the local search engines. ie a bottle of booze graphic might not go down very well in Muslin countries.

Ok thats my bit

Do *not* bother with Surelist - I used to use the service - not 'used to'.

They changed the specification mid-term of the contract and stopped editing of URL's - basically greatly reducing the value of the service.

Their support and customer service stinks - basically:

1. We will do nothing - you will have to accept it.

2. You can have no refund (even though we changed the goal-posts).

Don't waste your money on submission services - all you'll get is tons of spam and no visitors. Where do YOU go when you're searching the web? Why do you suppose anyone else is going to choose mom-and-pops-search-engine.com over Google etc.?

There's a lot of advice to be found about submissions to be found for free online - but be careful, a lot of it is out of date. Two common red herrings:

Re-submit your site every x weeks - DON'T. A lot of engines will flag you as a spammer.

Put this or that into your keywords - Don't waste a lot of time on fine-tuning keywords. They're so open to abuse that most search engines now totally ignore them.

Here's an article listing the major players in search-engine-land, and how to submit to them:

take a look round the rest of that site, loads of stuff for free, and more you can pay for.
