Hello,

I am pretty well versed with Access but I am looking to learn VB as a stand along product.

What would you recommend to a new comer? VB.Net standard or Visual Studio Pro?

These are the two products I am currently looking at:

I'm looking for the best ease of use for a n00b to break me into the art of programing.

Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Professional" should contain much of what you need to build serious applications. It also includes more languages than just Visual Basic.

"Microsoft Visual Basic .NET Standard" was the product I bought to learn VB.NET. However it only contains Visual Basic, and it has annoying limitations.

At that price ($150), "Professional" is the way to go.

And buy a good book to go along with thas. Otherwise you will be lost very soon. There is a big difference between access and vb.net/.net in general. The whole OOP thing is fairly difficult to learn.

As a newby to vb.net (I used access and crystal reports alot) I have found that the first 60 days can be a pain. But after that it all starts making alot of sense. I use vb.net standard, and have the developer version of crystal.

This board can be an excellent source of knowledge.

I've got Office XP Deveolper. I ended up buying the standard version of VB.net. I figure once I get that down i'll step up to the studio.

wow, $90 for VB.Net 2k3!!! I might have to jump on that! Heck, even if just to save myself money when 2k5 comes out I can just get an upgrade version then.
