Hi all,

I'm just slowing buying pieces of IP Office to learn and mess around with, so just bought a brand new IP500 v2 control unit part number 700476005. From a previous quote from an Avaya they said that for 5 SIP trunks I need IPO LIC SIP TRNK RFA 5, but no part numbers were given. If I search that on CDW it looks like 202968 but no pictures are shown, and if I search that on eBay it comes up showing a SmartCare. However the IP Office manual for Essential 8.1 says that Licence keys are done using SD Card on the IP500 V2, and in the photos of the V2 there's no SmartCard slot on the back. Most places don't show pictures so I haven't seen any that actually show a SD card when searching. Some just say 202968 is remote Licence activation but just wondering what part number exactly it is that I need for the unit that I have. Thanks!

Just to quickly add to this, I'm pretty sure the part # I have above is right as that's what the manual even says, but where I'm confused is how I know it's a SD Card vs a Smartcard as depending on what online store you use, it shows different pictures for that part number, typically no picture, or a picture of the Smartcard so I feel like I'm missing something here!

202967 IPO LIC SIP TRNK RFA 1
202968 IPO LIC SIP TRNK RFA 5
202969 IPO LIC SIP TRNK RFA 10
202970 IPO LIC SIP TRNK RFA 20

you can use any of these part numbers depending how much money you want to spend and how many licenses you want

I guess the thing I'm not clear on is that when I search those parts it shows a SmartCard with a chip on it which the V2 doesn't have. In the manual it says Licences are done using SD Card for V2. WAs just watching a Youtube tutorial though and they imported the licences from CSV so I guess what's throwing me off is I was under the impression that the Licences are "physical" in the sense that you plug them into the IP500 to be loaded, or is it basically just like a product key like with Windows where it doesn't matter what media the licence is on, I'm entering it into the IP Office Manager?

you need the serial number of the SD card.
You can read this out via the config file in manager in the system information. It says license dongle and is on the first page when you go to system.

you need to order licenses for the license key number you use, each license is then referenced in the system to match the SD card (or other dongle on older systems) and if it matches you have the features, if not you threw out money as they are non refundable. So make sure you order it for your SD card number.

the license is just a string of letters, symbols and numbers that gets copied into the configuration and then verified in the IPO

Got it that makes sense then thanks. I guess that's why one store I saw online when trying to buy the Essential edition was asking for the dongle number at check out, I guess that's the SD card it wants. I was just confused because when I was looking at CDW for example it just lets you add Essential to the cart and never asks for any dongle or SD number so just unclear why they would sell it like that if it basically wouldn't work.

they would ask you for the number after putting in the order as they can't order it from Avaya without a number.

I would be very careful which store you are buying those licenses from.
You better do it from an Avaya business partner and not in the grey market.

Great thanks, and def not buying from a grey market, was going to get it from CDW. Was just confused because it says "In Stock", but then if I click Check Warehouse Availability it says can't check at this time. I think CDW is pretty reputable so my biggest thing was just how they would know, but can ask before buying or buy from an Avaya partner that's no issue just glad I'm clear on how it all works now.

Do not buy from anyone who just asks for a dongle number online and gives you the licence....much like buying a car on eBay. You may get what you paid for but the chances of it working as you expected when you get it are slim. More so with SIP trunks than anything else, use a proper BP and get the end to end support required :)

"No problem monkey socks

Will do thanks! Emailed my CDW rep to find out how it works as I'd buy the SD card and licence from the same place. Wouldn't just use some random place. I'm of course just trying to cut costs as again this is more to play around with etc but obviously want it to work as well :) Picked up the IP500 V2 off eBay brand new in sealed box for $250 so just buying various components here and there, still deciding on IP vs Digital sets but was more the licences I was worried about.

One last question, is it safe to assume that this goes for all licences? So for example the IP Endpoint licence IPO LIC R6+ AV IP ENDPOINT 1 would that be the same, that it needs to match the SD Card Serial number as well I assume?

By the way if there's anyone on here that's an actual Vendor or partner and would do the same pricing as CDW I'd be more than happy to buy from you. I'm in Canada so not sure if that matters for shipping etc but let me know.

Westi is from Canada so he can tell you that.
Some of us are from the other site of the big water pool.
But all licenses (for IPOffice) can be ordered on a dongle, even the licenses that are for older systems.

When you order the wrong license or on the wrong dongle then they don't take it back so always be careful that you choose the right license on the right dongle.
