Which Oracle files do I exclude from normal backup?

Using BE 9.1 Oracle Agent to backup Oracle 9i Rel 2. It works fine, but my question is what Oracle files do I have to EXCLUDE when I perform a normal (non-Oracle agent) backup. I want to avoid the unnecessary copying of duplicate files, but I also want to make sure I do not miss anything!

I know I have to exclude the Oracle Tablespaces; do I also need to exclude the files that make up the {ARCHIVED LOGFILES} and {DATABASE CONTROL FILE}?

Also, do I have to INCLUDE all the other files that reside in my database directory?

Any advice gratefully received.

Hi ARKROYAL!

not sure about all the files you need to exclude, but definately leave out ORADATA. Attempting to backup this file will shut down your database, as it is a log file that is constantly updating.
