Hi there,

i'm buying a half decent notebook, not too cheap and crappy but a decent spec. I'm stuck between the two notebooks below.

There's the:

Model: ASUS X50R-AP341C
Processor: Intel Core Duo T2250 Processor
(1.73 GHz, 553 MHz FSB, 1 MB Cache)
Link:
Model: Advent 9515
Processor: AMD Turion 64x2 Processor TL60
(2.0 GHz, 533 MHz FSB, 1 MB Cache)
Link:

I've now found a notebook £30 cheaper and better spec!

Model: FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO PI-2515
Processor: Intel Core™ 2 Duo T5450 (1.66 GHz)
Link:
I'm leaning towards the siemens as it's more modern and better spec. Also heard the Intel processor will outperform the AMD Turion, not by much but still quicker and also the Intel is less power consuming, so battery life is better.

Anyone got any views on which spec is better, go on the links for ram. hdd spec etc....

Thanks.

Nvidia 8500GT Super 512MB

You will notice the Asus has "Core Duo" and the Fujitsu has "Core 2 Duo", with the latter being a better, more efficient and cooler CPU. I worked briefly with a Turion (Gateway MT6458) L50 and was amazed at how HOT the laptop became...even though it was on a table while I worked on it the heat was worse than any laptop I've worked on before or since.

I know the 1.66 Core 2 Duo well, having bought a Lenovo for my sister with that CPU. It is quick and powerful, with nowhere near the thermals of the Gateway. Granted, it may have been Gateway's design of the laptop, but my experience with the Turion Toaster leads me to advise against it, at least for now.

BTW the links are not working. If you are getting Vista on the new machine, get 2GB RAM, 1GB minimum for XP.

vista home premium pre installed but may load vista ultimate onto it and all the 3 notebooks have 2gb ram.

The Fujitsu/Siemens looks like a decent find at under £400 With the latest Intel X3100 chipset, faster FSB core2 Duo, I couldn't find anything to match it at the price.
500 series or higher are full Core2 Duo's, the Turion has neither the speed or battery life to compete.
I have a HP 6720s with the exact same CPU, battery life has an amazing three and a half hours, it never gets hot and is very quiet.
Nice one

thanks everyone for the great info.

yes i've heard the turion gets very hot too, someone said they're laptop was like a radiator with that cpu.

i thought the siemens was probably the best buy, 2 processors in one, obviously better speed, higher fsb etc... i have a core2duo in my pc and thats fantastic, obviously diffeent in notebooks but know their good quality. also 160gb hdd, 2gb ram, vista, dvd-rw, wifi, card reader etc...in the siemens, all the stuff needed and a great price £399.99 considering the spec.

but just thought i'd get other users perspective on the 3 notebooks.
