Hi! I have tried many time to install and work with linux but each time i dont get anywhere other than just installing it, cant get modem to work, cant get cd-rom drive or floppy etc to work...cant get my dsl modem to work.

If someone could help me in selecting the best linux out there, now a days that i can download and burn, i want to be able to run linix along with windows xp. I had tried installing Best Linux 2000, it looked great, the only problem was a little un-user friendly. sometimes i wonder if the reason windows is so buggy and crashesh all the time becuase of the ease of of usability that they provide. anyhow i have a
dell insporon 3800
cd-rw, 14" screen, 12gb hdd, p3 650, xircom 56+100T combo card, speed streem 4060 usb modem
i would like these devices to work, specially the dsl 4060 otherwise its diffucult to work, if the internet doesnt work.

help would be greatly appreciated.

first choose some of the most popular distro, because there is a lot of techhelp, docs, and people using it
for beginning best choose redhat or mandrake
browse their pages for suported hardware
about graphics card , borwse XFree86.org for support
about your modem, browse linux kernel pages about supported hardware(new kernel support usb pretty well) or browse its producer homepage and try to find aout somthing about support

Also try contacting your local Linux Users Group, there is usually one in most major towns, as they welcome Newbies and give prety good support. They are made up of different types of users, from general people to Administrators, and everything in between.
