I am looking for some advice.

We are looking into moving into a new building and as part of the project we need to buy a new PBX. What is the best PBX going around at the moment? are there any we should avoid?
We want a system that is going to be future proof and be easily exandable.

We need a system for arond 450 extensions of which 50 will be call centre agents. We would be interested in some sort of CTI solution as well.

Currently we use an MD110 at BC9 and we have had a look at upgrading to BC11 with solidus. This looks like a good product but I am not sure how it compares to other products.

Can anyone offer some advice or experiances they have had with Lucent definity, Meridian, Siemans Hi-com or anything else they would recommend.

We want somthing fairly state of the art, but we aren't ready to go all the way with VoIP yet. Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance,

JD

If you look for a rliable , robust, cheap and state-of-art system, check Tadiran Coral systems.
I have a system with 2 PRI and more of 600 internal lines, VoIP gateways, VoiceMail, Billing software, Auto Attendant, etc, etc... all Tadiran Coral Power system. zero problems!
The best for you money...

Make certain that the PBX you chose will support all the features you will use or want. Ask the vendor for other customers within your area of equal size that you can talk to.
I've always worked with Definity products. For call center applications this would always be my first choice. The biggest problem I have with this system is using Avaya. They are difficult at best to work with. The good news is there are several Avaya business partners the will supply the equipment and after the installation will also support your location. With what you are asking for a Definity G3si would be more than enough to support your needs.

Here is my 2 cents!

ATT-->Lucent-->Avaya!

Doesn't matter what is the name of the PBX. The Definity was from System 75 and was developed by Bell Lab. It has the biggest installed base in the US as well as support technician. If you don't want to work with Avaya tech support because their maintenance rate is high, you have a lot of choices(3rd party maintenance or consultants) out there compare with Siemens, Tadarin, and Panasonic.

I would stay with the big name ONLY!

It is in my opinion that NEC is by far the most powerfull PBX out there today and that goes for the Key systems also.
NEC builds PC's and not just phone systems and what we expect from phone systems these days is to interact with our computers and NEC know's how to that more then most.
I myself as a tech prefer the Nortel systems because it's easier to program and more user friendly but the NEC rocks in power but is difficult to program.

I still say Inter-Tel, they now have version 7.0 and they added many more networking features. Instead of a point-to-point T1, you can use whatever existing internet connection you have to connect remote systems. jeff moss

Ok Guys

incase anyone was wondering we have now placed an order for a Meridian 61C with Symposium and many other features. I think overall it was the best solution for us. I think if we had a larger call centre then we would maybe have leaned towards the definity.

Anyway, now the fun really starts with the installation.

Thanks again for your advice

Can't resist. Read all posts. I think the Option 61 a grand choice.

I have had a (used) Avaya Definity switch installed in my site for 3 1/2 years and it's never been powered down even once. (I don't recommend that you purchase used Avaya equipment as the license is not transferrable) Their platforms are the most stable and reliable in the market. My switch is most likeley over 10 years old and it's running like a champ! Just don't get sucked into their maintenance contracts. There are pleanty of support providers for a fraction of the cost. Avaya has some great new products on the market and us end users have created our own local users groups all across the world. For more information on local users groups, you can find the information on the International Alliance of Avaya users website You can ask an Avaya Business partner for pricing quotes for your new system as well as maintance or ask a 3rd party telecom vendor for the support you need. Here is the link to locate an Avaya business partner in the US Good luck!

fonedude - I'm curious. Why are you so angry at Avaya?
