We are currently running Exchange 2003 Enterprise and we are using GFI Mail Essentials and Mail Security. I also have IMFv2 configured.

What I am trying to figure out is which filters does email hit first when it comes into our system.

Is it GFI or IMF?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, did you get an answer to this? We've got the same question regarding Symantec and Trend Micro.

I believe that IMF is catching the emails before the GFI Software. I contacted GFI and asked them which one of their products scan the email first. The order is as follows...

1) GFI Mail Essentials (spam filtering)
2) GFI Mail Security (anti-virus, content filtering, etc.)
3) GFI Mail Archiver

I set IMF to archive the messages it filters and then I checked to see if the email had been archived by GFI. Since it had not, IMF must catch it first.
