here's the scenario:

ISP is hosting e-mail and client's network is using ISP's DNS server. client's domain name is xyz.net. POP3 and SMTP setting for client mail is mail.xyz.net

I am trying to setup a W2K server with active directory and DNS. Can i use the domain name xyz.net? would that create confusion if i point my clients to local dns and use forwarder to ISP's DNS? What's the best way to set this up?

i appreciate any suggestions. Thanks Den

no, it will not effect u as long as ur nameservers on the server are not registered on the internet and the server u r talking about is not connected to internet.

but as much as i understand u want to allow all the clients to access internet through this server and point all the clients dns setting to this server
well in that case it would be better to go for a caching only DNS server. with forwarders enabled for the isp dns. Kapil Aggarwal
