hi everyone!

i am a recent BS computer science graduate. i am still searching for my first real full time job.
currently doing a part time help desk work.
i don't think i will see any light at the end of my finding a full time job tunnel any soon.
people are telling me a fast way to get a job without any
experience is getting a certification.

my question is:
i want to get into the certifcation.
i want to be a DBA but i am not sure which one to choose and stick to it.

ms sql server 2000, MCDBA or oracle 9i, OCA?

could you give me an advice on this?
1)which one do you think is faster to obtain?
2)one is more difficult than other?
3)which one will last?
4)your opion or experience with either of certification.

i don't know where to start. so discouraged that i can't even find a decent job after the graduation.
thanks millions in advance.

This may not help much but-
*Which system do you have the most experience in?
*What systems are they predominantly using where you want to work? How about the overall local Market?
*Have you looked at the Exam tracks for each? Is one significantly tougher than the other?
*Have you queried any professional contacts or advisors and gotten their recommendations?

Personally, I went with Microsoft because that's where my experience was and every place I've worked at has used it. You may just want to get an entry level job somewhere and if it's a good place to work, see what they're using. Good luck.

out of my experience i would suggest that ocp would be the best if u can manage to get it coz u will end up getting paid more than we (microsoft fellows - i am into SQL2k for past 4 yrs) . and now i regret getting into SQL2k line coz i am at a point of no turning back and deviating into oracle. i couldnt get a chance to work on it coz every where i worked they used Microsoft ...wat i can see all around is that lot of my friends in similar line working in Oracle field getting paid double than me ...so definitely an OCP stand more value and chances ...but i m afraid u can get it without actually working on it ...anyways all the best for ur endeavours

round here there are certainly more oracle positions available AND they pay better.....

thanks guys.

do you think it is true that there are more oracle jobs than MS sql jobs?
a friend of mine who has a few MS certifications under his belt told me that MS will be always here and that there are a lot more MS jobs since every small company are using MS product.
he said it is safe with MS certi.
who is using oracle, small or big companies?
how about MS SQL?
if you look ahead 10 years, how are MS sql and Oracle markets ? can you share your experiences and thoughts?
lastly, for a beginner which is easier to put your foot in the door?
if i would look for an intern work, what companies should i look for and how should i ask for such a position when noone is hiring any one right now?
thanks millions in advance. QB

This is true because although sql and oracle compete, oracle usually wins with the larger customer and sql remains steady in the small and medium size shops. Most MCDBA I know are also network/system admins too and so they get the raw deal in pay but as much as we all hate Microsoft they are here to stay for some time yet. Oracle isn't going anywhere either but you will need to get your foot in the door first before you can start to get experience with it. Certs without experience = no job

1)which one do you think is faster to obtain?
MCDBA
2)one is more difficult than other?
OCP
3)which one will last?
DBA's are here to stay
4)your opion or experience with either of certification.

My advice, get a entry level or assistant job in the technical field (not end user support) and then get certified in what you are around. Then expand this too SQL or Oracle (whichever is easiest for you to grasp).
