You need to start with you're MCP, then go on to what you want. I would go for your MCSA then MCSE. Check out my faq,

The FAQ us handly, but besides the transcender tests try picking up the "Windows 2000 Resource Kit" it contains 4 books most of them written by Mark Minasi. It's focus is NOT on the MCSE but on actualy teaching you Windows 2000 Pro, Server, Active Directory and Registry.
You should be able to get it for about 75-125 dollars (US) or you could join the Computer Books Direct club and get it for $10 (of course you have to buy other books later
It contains:
Mastering Windows 2000 Server
Mastering Windows 2000 Professional
Mastering Active Directory
Mastering Windows 2000 Registry
Very handy resource books as well.

2. practice everything on your home lab for hands-on experience.
3. practice with transcender/measureup/boson/other test software until 100%
recommended you take them in rough numerical order:

It should take about a year at 1 test per month, and run roughly $3,000 for 3-4 older PCs (think 500MHz P3s), network hubs or switches, network cables, MS evaluation software, study books, and test vouchers/fees... And if you approach it correctly, your employer will pay for all or most of it--especially if you are willing to share it with your colleagues...
When you finish this, you will have done something major to put on your resume... and proof you can do important things without direct and constant supervision...

Yeah, wish I could do 1 test per month rather than the 1 test every 2/3 months
I prefer to really read the material and then cram loads of practise tests 2 weeks prior to the exam.
Get to know your stuff inside and out.
