Hello Tech Gurus,

I am planning to take company sponsored CCNA Training. I live in Dc metro area. Do you guys recommend any good place to go for training.

I have GlobalKLnowledge or learningtree in mind ??

I sincerely appreciate any of your help and advise.

I have spent some time in this forum and i would like to testify that this is one of the best online community of techs who are good and so friendly.

Keep it up.

Jenefa,

What is your background in networking and Cisco?

I would ALWAYS say that a Cisco Network Academy is a GREAT choice especially for those new to Cisco and networking.

I had a student in my Cisco Academy class who had a background in pulling cable/cable installs - he had done a 2 week boot camp and got his CCNA but got blown out on the interview because he was just "taught the test" in the boot camp. This would have been fine if he had an extensive background in networking! He could install the network ........ he found out the hard way and did the Cisco Academy and learned all about Cisco and networking - as Cisco wants you to know it.

I have had friends do both GlobalKLnowledge and Learningtree but they had very strong backgrounds in computers and networking - just make sure that the class truely matches up with what you know - in other words - if you have no background in networking - I do not think a 2 week cram class is what you need!

Good luck and ask more questions or post more about your background for more information!

Thanks Broda,

I am working as a Network Admin for the past 8 years and i think i know TCP /Ip and other Windows realted Networking to a good limit. I was able to configure a PIX 515e by reading online material.

I am also thinking of taking CCENT via e-learning.

As i said before, you guys are the best in forum manners!!!. I am inspired by your goodness and kindess in online community manners.

Thanks and i welcome more thoughts.

Jenefa,

With your background you should be safe taking just about any of the programs listed - check them out and see what they offer and if it meets your learning style!!

With that said - I had more then one network admins in my Cisco Academy classes over the years - one guy ran a very large hospital network worldwide! He had 25+ years experience but he admitted that he just did not get the hands on he wanted as an admin, so he took the Cisco Academy classes for that reason - lots of hands on with the basics from the ground up.

In the DC Metro area you should have several Cisco Academys - it is a fantastic learning system and in some areas it is taught online.

Good luck and welcome to our corner of the net!

Broda,

thanks again for your thoughts. Do you know by any chance, how much it costs to attend a cisco academy class for CCNA.
And do they offer Cisco exam oriented course material, training and exam voucher?

Do you know anythin about CCENT?

Thanks again

Jenefa

Jenefa,

Cisco CCNA Network Academy classes are designed by Cisco Systems exactly for getting students ready to take the CCNA exam and to be ready for what the job of CCNA involves. So the material does a little more then just get you ready to pass CCNA.

Here is a link -

You can find an academy here -

The cost can vary - I teach at a community college in Florida and cost for Florida residents is about $200 for each of the 4 classes. Check the locator above and then check with the schools in your area as to costs!

The program does have different vouchers for the CCENT exam or the CCNA. The way the program works you are ready for the CCENT after the 2nd semester and CCNA after semester 4.

Hope this helps - check the websites above!

CiscoGuy is right... The classes vary drastically in price so research is definitely advisable..

My class cost $5000 at ECPI in Virginia Beach (On the military base).. I have heard that Tidewater Community College offers the Cisco Network Academy Program for around $300 per class ($1200)..

Also, be sure to ask questions... IE. What type of equipment will I get to play with ETC. We have three 29xxXM's and three 2950/60's... CiscoGuy's school has several racks full of stuff but he's all the way down in Florida...

Basically, just research... I will say that ECPI is a good school but I would personally recommend going to their actual campus as opposed to a base location for military personnel out there..

Sorta off topic but for those individuals looking to go the extra step towards their degree I researched a good amount and called several schools and DeVry seems to be the winner as far as I am concerned when pertaining to military... Ends up running $250 a credit and there are several benefits available to military.. Active and retired...

This is just my opinion... You should definitely research everything for yourself...

maczen,

You said - " DeVry seems to be the winner as far as I am concerned when pertaining to military... " not sure about the military part but I have to agree - I am finishing my BS at a State school but Devry is in my top 5 for my Masters.

They are acredittied (which is VERY important) by REAL places that count unlike some of the diploma mills out there. They also (if I am remembering my schools correctly) have a Masters program in Networking and Communications.

For ANYONE that is going for an AA, AS, BS or Masters a good way to check them out is ask if your credits will transfer to the state college in your area and then call that state college and ask them the same question. If you are not sure why that is important then post a question and we can discuss.

Continue with your Friday festivities :)

You are of course correct CiscoG..
Keller Graduate School of Management is where you go after DeVry (They accept 15 of the 45 credits necessary for your Master's) Here is the link to the Master's of Network Communication.. (My ultimate goal other than CCIE) I always think small.. LoL
