Where to get an ATA?

I am a newbie here. If I understand rightly, the cheapest solution to be able to plug a standard cordless phone onto my BCM50 (non-VOIP) system is to plug an ATA into the line before plugging my phone in, right?

If so, I need to know where I can get an ATA from and if there are different kinds, I would appreciate any brand/model recommendations you might have.

U have 4 analog station ports on the BCM50. All u require is a keycode to enable them. Are they already used up? Could be cheaper than an ATA and u don't lose a digital port in the process.

No, we haven't purchased any keycodes for analog ports. I was under the impression that that would be a more costly solution. Especially, since we would have to run a new line and port from our BCM at the back of the building to wherever we wanted to install.

I was thinking more along the lines of trying to use an ATA to connect a cordless phone to an existing line, so that I could use both my current (corded) handset, and have a cordless from which I could pick up and roam if I then needed.

If I were to purchase a Nortel Norstar ATA2 NT8B90AL-93, would this provide the functionality that I'm describing I need?

No. The ATA gets connected to an unused digital port and will have it's own extension. ATA's don't act as splitters so u can share one port w/ a digital set and cordless set.

They only thing is to forward your phone to the cordless when you leave your desk.
And the ATA has to be connected to a digital port. It converts digital to analog.
