i've been looking thru the forum and noticed that a lot of people have been having the same problem as me that basically illustrator wont work properly, wont save, etc. where can i find the aiprefs file on windows xp so i can delete it, i looked in documents and settings and i cant find it

If you do a search, make sure to enable search for hidden and system files...

On a Windows system, the file (if you have CS2) is here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings

Fill in your username in the appropriate spot.

thanks itchybug , i deleted aiprefs file, turned off my anti virus uninstalled my illustrator then reinstalled it and it still didnt work. i encountered exactly the same problems. i've got to say i am very frustrated and have never encountered this amount of difficulty with installing a piece of software. im not impressed with adobe at all and wanted to know if there are any other good digital illustration programs out there that anybody knows of

Dave:

Did you delete the aiprefs with Illustrator CLOSED? Otherwise it won't work, because it will write the same corruption into the new file (which is written upon exit). The aiprefs also remains when you uninstall/reinstall.

yeah i've tried that now but it still didnt work sadly. im completely exasperated after wasting almost a whole day on this.

right i think i have manged to get it working now by first installing the cs1 version and then installing the cs2 version. however when i click on the help tab and then click on illustrator help... F1 nothing happens on the cs2 version and on the cs1 version it opens up my internet browser takes me to a website but the page doesn't load it just remains blank.

has anybody got any ideas?

I also had problems with help file. This was my workaround. Clicking on help didn't get me anywhere, so I did a search for ahc.exe and created a shortcut to it on my desktop. When I need help I then click on my shortcut, and a Browser headed Adobe help centre opens. Click on product help, (left, top next to ? mark), then in drop down box next to Help for: Adobe Help Centre 1, click on down arrow and chose Adobe Illustrator CS2, help topics then open up.
Hope this works for you.
