There used to be a wipe utility on source forge -- I remember using it last December to erase some openvpn client files.

I tried and downloaded the tar file for the wipe utility on source forge but it would not build in my cygwin environment -- I received linker errors.

Is there a version of source forge wipe (or any other wipe) already compiled for windows?

thanks,
Siegfried

Thanks. While that looks like an interesting program it apparently wants to install itself on a CD, floppy or flash mem stick.

I just wanted a little program that would write some random patterns repeatedly over a single file before it is actually deleted so no one could scavenge it. I think this is what the source forge program does. I wish I could make it compile.

Does anyone have any more suggestions?

Siegfried

jwynn,
could you explain that a bit more? Where do I specify the file name. "81 IF SECOND DRIVE" looks like it wipes an entire drive.
thanks,

Download Accelerator Plus (DAP) has a file shredder that is loaded into the right click menu, when you highlight a file or folder and right click you have the option of shredding the object. DAP is free and does a good job of download management plus a free shredder.
