Where does the time clock reside

I have a older Definity Prologix system Release 6 and the customer is annoyed that the time stamp on his digital sets [ 6408D+ ] drifts ahead or back almost by 1/2 hour or 1 hour duringa weeks time...he has been changing the time as it goes off but is asking me if there is anything that can be done...it is NOT following the caller ID on his lines since he does not have caller ID on any of his trunks and no T-1 circuit...The question is where does the system clock reside.... the processor and the tone clock where replaced [for other reasons] about 4 months ago but we had the same issue with the old boards as with the newer ones

Check out these threads see if they help:

Stinny..Thanks for the tip but I don't think my customer will go for the fix you have advised...If I could find out which circuit pack has the time clock in it, I would try a replacement first..The price of these boards have really dropped so I'm thinking it would at least be worth a try knowing that the replacement board [might be, could be,] worse but still worth a try.
So my question remains,, "Does anyone know which board the time clock for station display time & date stamp resides"
I would have guessed it is the Processor, but as I stated, I had to replace the processor for other reasons and the drifting of time issue is still with the system on the newer [ used ] processor.

tn798 processor board controls the clock

AvayaTier3...Thanks for the confirmation that the clock resides on the processor.
It is what I suspected all along...So this leaves me with the fact that the new processor I installed some time ago, has the same drifting time issue as the original processor.
As I stated in my post, the replacement processor was a used unit but very inexpensive so it makes no sense to keep replacing boards.
It's probably something that starts to fail as years in service accumulate.
Thanks for your input.

Stinney posted a very reliable fix for the drifting clock issue. The clock on the processor is not very reliable.
Using ntp and setting the clock regularly with ASA will automate this and be transparent to your customer.

On the Systems Features forms there is an entry 'System Updates Time On Station Displays?'. It should be set to 'y'.

4merAvaya...Kevin..Thanks I will check to see if it is set to a Y and post the results.

hey, mr. customer. here's an idea: either accept the fact that you're running 15-yr-old hardware and software, and put up with minor annoyances, or UPGRADE to a modern system that has these capabilities built in.

i know this isn't helpful, but sheesh.

Or, you know, sync the damned thing with your PC (Time Synchronization), and have your PC use and ntp server :)

It's always been Avaya's stance that they are not a "watchmaker" and do not standby their processors/oscillators to provide accurate clocks. That said...an hour a week drift is excessive and any ebay TN798B should get you close to +/- 1 minute per month for $30 for any pre-R10 system. Otherwise, all other recommendations on synching with a PC with or without NTP should fix your issues.
