I am trying to limit Crystal Report to print only those contact information for which the user has access to. Each Contact has a Security code in the Key5 field of the Contact1 table. Here are some issues;
I don't know how to check which user initiated the report.
I don't know where GM stores each users info and which groups they belong to ( I am assuming that the security codes in the Contact table are group numbers)
I do know and have seen that some users are able to view 40-50 Companies, some 70-80 companies and managers any company. How is GM doing this?
We are running GM Sales & Marketing 5.5 with Crystal Reports

Hello

I don't think I have all your answers but can offer some insight.

The users are stored in Users.dbf

The lookup table holds ONE reference to user groups. I'm not sure of all of them...if you figure this one out, please post it.

In Contact1, there are 2 fields, owner & status. They are both used in the record ownership feature.

Edit | Record Properties | Ownership tab...thats how you set the ownership as a gm user, the 2 fields mentioned in Contact1 are what it affects.

Dave, Thank you for your insight. Sometime during mid April, I came across user.dbf. It contained a field called USECURITY, which I assumed I could use to find all this user's records or groups, but being that its encrypted, I cannot be sure. Anyway, I thought I could use this field and do a join on CONTACT1 or CONTHIST or CONTGRP to find which records/groups this user owns/belongs, got none..
I know I can use a macro to obtain Groups or users in a group but how can I pass this to Crystal Reports and also the User that launched the Crystal report.
Incidently, we are upgrading to GMSM 6.0 and Crystal 8.5
Thanks again.

kit2002,
Did you every figure out how to identify the members of a group?
