Does any know where I can find Netbackup Problems report? I recently got a status 13 for one of my backups and the troubleshooter suggested I check Netbackup Problems report for clues. Also, how would I create an activity log directory for a process?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Logging gives you information about what the daemons or services are doing behind the scenes. To turn on
logging in VERITAS NetBackup you must create directories. If the directories exist then all information
relating to a process or service is logged.

For example – if you want to find out why bprd is starting and then stopping, you can create a bprd directory
on the master server. As long as the directory exists we will log information. You can get more information
by increasing the logging level. In NetBackup 3.4 the levels are 0 – 99. In NetBackup 4.5 the levels are 0 –
5. The directories should be created in the following location: /usr/openv/netbackup/logs for UNIX
systems.

For windows you can run netbackup_installdir/netbackup/logs/mklogdir.bat, which will create
all the appropriate directories. If you wish to log information about the media manager processes or services
you can create /usr/openv/volmgr/debug/daemon for the vmd information and
/usr/openv/volmgr/debug/reqlib for requesting information on UNIX systems. On windows systems
you would create the same directory with the appropriate entry like: install_dir/volmgr/debug/daemon
etc. The logging will start when the service starts. Therefore, if the service is doesn’t stop and restart, you
will have to stop the service before logging begins.

To view a Problem Report:

1) From the NetBackup Administration GUI, select Reports
2) Select Reports, Problems with Backups
3) Click on the Green checkmark (if you're using version 3.4.1)
4) Note the date and time, change if needed
5) Note the Client and Server fields, change if necessary, may be set to ALL but that will include all problems.
6) Click on Run
7) Look for the error in the Status field and scroll down to the line you're looking for, or click on the Status field to arrange all the errors in ascending order, then scroll down looking for that particular error.

Search the Knowledge Base for a description and/or solution for the error.

Hi

From the NetBackup Administration GUI, Reports , can view on screen the various report, is there any way to print out these reports?

How to configure the system to e-mail a report on what are the files that was backup and also any error that occur during the backup process.

Thank in advance

From the Netbackup GUI after you have run the report, just press the printer icon

I cannot see any printer icon just different icon for the various reports. I'm using Netbackup Business Server version 3.4 on Solaris 8.

Do you have a printer assigned to your Solaris system? If you don't have a printer, the printer icon will be greyed out.

Sekhar - Just one addition to your logging information: If you want the debug logs you have to add VERBOSE to the vm.conf file and restart the services.

volmgr\debug\daemon = Debug information on the service
volmgr\debug\reqlib = Debug information on the process requesting the service.
volmgr\debug\tpcommand = Debug information on the tpconfig and tpautoconf commands.
volmgr\debug\ltid - Debug information on ltid.

Thanks for your response.

I do not have a printer attached to the solaris, as the Netbackup server is at another location. I'm remotely administering this from my office. Is there any way I can print the report using the printer in the office.

What I do is to use the command line options and format it from there.

bperror -problems -L -hoursago <TimeFrame>

If you type in a client name then the command is:
bperror -problems -L -hoursago <TimeFrame> -client <ClientName>

If you type in a Media Server Name the command is:
bperror -problems -L -hoursago <TimeFrame> -server <MediaServer>

Output the results to a text file and transfer that file over to your desktop.

hllim,

See my earlier message, after running the report (steps 1-3), just click on File, Print. You should be able to print to any networked printer.
