Where do the applications get installed?

We are looking at MSCS. What I need to know is where do the applications get installed?

Are the apps installed on the primary and through the MSCS installed on the secondary?

If the apps have separate instance on each server, do you update one instance of the app and the rest will be updated by MSCS or do they need to be updated separately?

Can the apps be installed on the shared disk ?

If the app is cluster aware, you should be able to install it on the primary node and it will update the secondary node automatically. The application will be installed to the local disk on both nodes. Service packs should also install automatically to both nodes. I know for a fact that SQL Server 2000 works this way in both instances.
