I am in a tough position here at my organization, and am turning to this forum for some expert advice. Here is my background. I have been an IT professional for 9 years now. I started my career as a Visual Basic and Lotus Notes programmer. At that time many organizations were looking for experienced notes programmers. This enabled me to move to another firm, which pigeoned holed me in notes. I was happy for a while, and then I started to see a slow down in work. I decided to branch out, and moved onto another team. This brings me to my current situation. The new team is responsible for an existing very large corporate web app. I have been responsible for writing code for an image system with very little web expertise. It almost seems they set me up for failure. There is no help, no training, and no mentoring. I need to know JAVA,xml, xsl,HTML, and java script. I have coded some of it, but only with very basic HTML and xsml. With no real web experience it seems like their testing my capabilities. It was a disappointing move on my part especially since the notes team has picked up. I truly don't know what to do. Do I stick with it and see were it leads me? How can I adapt skills I don't even have? How can you adapt, and still have a life outside? There are so many technologies how can I keep up? I need to start taking action on my own, and I need pointed in the right direction. Please help, I am becomming desperate!
