Hi all,

I've got an issue that I need some clarification on concerning blocking pop-up ads in Internet Explorer.

This is in a LAN/WAN environment. A person has unlimited internet access granted to them by corporate. The corporate firewall(s) are in a different state(s). They access a web site that has pop-ups. Not a big deal really. They never click on them and are not interested in the pop-up ads content. I know ads can be blocked with third party utilities. That's not my problem.

What I need to know is WHERE do the pop-ups get blocked when a person is running an ad blocker? Are they blocked right at the source of the pop-up, blocked before or after the corporate firewall, or blocked once they get to the persons borowser? Does it depend on the ad blocker utility?

I need to configure ad blocking but also need to block the pop-up ads content totally from hitting the corporate WAN altogether. In other words, they need to be hidden from ever being seen by the WAN routers that provide internet access to the WAN/LANs.

Thanks for any help folks!

I am not an expert by any means but I believe most utilities will block this at the desktop level. So it would be after the data has passed through the firewall. joegz

when a person is running a local ad-blockers, its really a small proxy on their machine which is removing the code from the pages.
you cant really get rid of the traffic, cause your ips would have to block it before it even hits your router.
you CAN block it right after your router with a proxy tho

Thanks folks,

That's what I thought. Just needed clarification. Guess I'll haveto come up with a different solution.

I appreciate the help.
