Hi All,

I installed another drive, partitioned it, mounted it (I called it /stuff) and formated it.

I gave permissions to /stuff in samba and then used ftp to download some files to it.

So far, all that went just fine.

I can even see the files with Network Neighborhood. (all is well!)

But when I telnet to it, there's nothing there!

svr:/stuff > ls -la
total 14
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 1024 Aug 22 21:56 .
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 1024 Nov 26 22:50 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 12288 Aug 22 21:56 lost+found

It says 'total 14' but even if I login as root, I can't seem to see any files.

Can someone tell me what steps did I miss that will allow me to access these files?

Thanks!

tgus

Your Samba most like have a different root then '/'.

Have a close look at the Samba configuration file or simply do a 'find' for the files you uploaded.

Thanks unixfreak,

I don't know about a different root but you were right about the smb.conf file.

I forgot to add;
path = /stuff

So when I did a find, I found it in the /tmp directory.

Thanks again!

Note also that your "Total 14" is likely referring to disk blocks in use by the contents of your directory -- not the number of files in the directory.

Cheers,

Thanks kjwoo,

I was just about to ask about that.
