No one has responded to my other newbie questions but I am still hopeful so here goes another - where are the backed up archive logs stored? If I understand this right, archive log pieces will have names starting with "al" while other pieces will have names starting with "bk." The "bk" pieces I have found. The "al" pieces are eluding me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Archive logs of what? Not sure what you are talking about.

The backed up Archived redo logs.

You may be talking about transaction logs from SQL Server or Exchange, or you may be talking about something else. You aren't giving enough information, so I don't know. Either way, I've never seen the files you are refering to.
