Hi,
How can I cleanly shut down my computer when XP does not see the mouse? [sad]

I'm using a KVM switch, and have discovered that if I inadvertently take a quick peek at another system while XP Pro is beginning the boot process, it cannot thereafter see the mouse, however much in vain I plug and unplug the thing.

Without mouse support, the mouse pointer just sits there in the middle of the screen, useless.

If I CTRL-ALT-DELETE, I get a dialog box asking for a choice that can only be selected by a mouse I can't use.

How do I shut down the system cleanly when this happens?

after you do the C-A-D hit alt F to get the top tool bar then arrow over to shutdown and arrow down to restart

you can use the TAB and arrow keys to select the correct button and then press enter.

You can also use ALT-F4 (repeatively) to close the active application and shut down the computer.

Just hit CTRL and ESC at the same time. Use the up and down arrows to choose shut down and hit enter. Then when the box shows up with the oprtions, just use the left and right arrows to choose shut down. Then hit the enter key again. Your computer will then shut down. Good luck.

Ctrl-Escape or the windows key on the keyboard. It is next to the left control key.

Hi,
Thanks everyone. This will keep a lot of hair off the floor. [thumbsup2]
