Do you mean, "it freezes" or are you getting blue screen errors or what?
Has this just started happening? Does it only do it at home and not at work?
What version of Internet Explorer are you using-what operating systm, etc?
Yes. i got "freezes" first, and then turned to blue screen errors. I only use laptop at home, my flatmates' laptop works well when they use Internet. Windows Me and Explorer 5.0 are used in my laptop.
thanks for your reply so quick!

Does this only happen when you get on the internet? If so, click on Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information, then click on Tools at the top of the tool bar. Then click on Internet Explorer Repair Tool. Then check "Repair Internet Explorer" (the middle option) and click "Ok". Let it do it's thing and it will prompt you to re-start your machine--go ahead and click on re-start. after it boots back up, see if you can get on the internet now. Good luck!
If this fixes it, I would go ahead and download Internet Explorer 6.0 from your Windows Update page. IE 5.0 was a rag, 5.5 was better and 6.0 is better, still.
Hi, nobrain

Okay, I'm not that familiar with Windows ME. I know things are re-arranged from Win98 somewhat. Try this: click on Start, Settings, Control Panel & Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down the list and click on Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and Internet Tools. With this high lighted, click on the "Add/Remove" button. Make sure you then click the middle selection, "Repair Internet Explorer" and let it do it's thing. After the restart see if you can get on the internet okay. Let me know if this works.
I just realized you said "AOL" 6.0, so you must have IE 5.0 like you said at first. So, change what I said to "Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 and Internet Tools". You may need to re-install AOL 6.0 if this doesn't work. I'm out of ideas.
Maybe update drivers?
Try a different modem?
Is the modem in your friend's laptop built in or can you take it out? If so, try putting it into your laptop and see if you still have the problem.
Try totally uninstalling all internet related software (AOL, IE5, modem etc), run error and virus checkers, defrag your laptop and then reinstall all software.
I think that defragging could be a good option because my computer at work was running really shitty. When I launched IE5, it just froze (this was before I even got on the internet). Once I defragged it, it was fine. (My work was using NT4 but its still worth trying).
I can not say that the problem I had prior is in relation to yours, but worth a shot. If at anytime the battery was recharging when I would access my dial-up the same blue screen of death would occur ... which made access impossible altogether just running on the battery. Try backing the battery out, and run straight with the power converter and a standard outlet.
For my unit, I understood it was a problem with power management and the pcmcia slot.
Other than that, try updating drivers for your unit and the modem being used.
