When (trying) to access an ACT! 2000 database using Crystal Reports 9.0 we get 2 dialog boxes, the first being "not supported", then the next being "data object cannot be opened/accessed". Has anyone else run across this? We were able to access the database using 8.5 without any difficulty.

What's verify database? Please excuse my ignorance, I'm a SQL and web developer. This is my first foray into the Crystal world.

Under Database->Verify Database.

You can also change drivers/location of the data using Database->Set Location.

You are talking version 9.0 right? So far we can't even connect. Can you tell me the menu options required for this, like file, open...?

Okay we opened the report then did a database verify and we got the same error messages

I can't get my CR9 to view my Act!2000 data either. Either a new report or my existing CR8.5 reports.

So I'm keeping my Act reports in Cr8.5

I've found CR9 has major problems with connecting to some Db's including Act and Progress. Wait until a service release sorts it out.

Well alright then. Thanks for trying. Have you had any success contatcing Crystal for support?

I believe this is a known issue (with secure ACT databases) that has been fixed in the following patch:

ftp://ftp.crystaldecisions.com/outgoing/EHF/CR90DBEXWIN_EN.ZIP

Note: the usual precautions about installing patches apply...)

You believe correctly, Obi-Wan Millet. Patch applied, fix in. Much thanks to you, Synapse and Chelsea.

eticket,

Glad it fixed your issue )

Could you please search your PC and let me know if you see the following dll anywhere: P2ctact3.dll

CR Documentation lists this dll as required for ACT! but it doesn't seem to exist.

Sorry for the delay. No I did not find the file on the PC running Crystal, or any others for that matter. What's it required for?

Thanks, Bruce...)

Eticket, that dll is listed by Crystal (in one of their tech documents) as required for connecting to Act! databases with CR 9, but as you (and one of my customers) demonstrate, it doesn't seem to be needed (nor is it installed by Crystal).

I have an open case with Crystal asking them to clarify.

Cheers,
- Ido
