After using Norton Utilities to fix Windows 98 SE problems, most folders' names in my system became corrupted !! I am up the creek and intend to reinstall Win98 SE because "Undo" is out of the question now !

Is there any hope for a fix or should I go ahead to reinstall ?

_Is there a rule of thumb as to when a reinstallation of Win98 SE is warrented ?

Thanks,

Usually just after you have used Norton Utilities! ;-)
Seriously though I don't think there is any fixed criteria, a lot depends on what you are doing with your system. If you are continually installing and removing different software, over time Windows will slow down and begin to give errors. I am in this position and generally reinstall every few months, its surprising how much faster and more trouble free everything is afterwards. On the other hand a user with a stable software setup who does his maintenance regularly (scandisk, defrag, regclean etc) should not have to reinstall at all except in case of a major problem caused by a virus, power surge or the like. Norton utils is notorious for causing as many problems as it cures.

Thanks Mulga for your kind words of wisdom !
It's great comfort to hear , especially it had been 4 months since my last installation of Win98 SE !

Thanks again...
