When my isp disconnects me (every 4 hrs, its meant to happen) my computer freezes. If i however disconnect manually, the internet disconnects normally with no freezing. It is very annoying, as once i have a session on the internet i have to reboot. Any help would be appreciated.
I have:
Netcomm 56k modem w/ latest drivers
windows xp pro
this has only started happening recently, since ive been suddenly connecting at 52kb/s instead of 31.2 which is what i use to connect at.

Next time right-click the Connection Icon on the notification tray and disconnect/hang up that way.

Yes i know that, that is what i mean by "disconnect manually" The point is that when it used to disconnect, it used to reconnect automatically, but as the computer now freezes i cannot do this.

There is a difference between losing the phone connection and losing the connection to the ISP gateway.

If you wait, XP will time-out. It is just confused by the fact that the phone connection is still active, and likely there is still a carrier tone.

Something is suggestive here that you do not have all of the modem command string values you should at this higher connection speed. A call to your ISP support line should find a quick answer.

You could also check this site for your ISP:

Go to Forums, all Forums, and see if your ISP is listed. Also while there visit this Forum: Read the FAQ linked at the top of the page.

So to wait, your saying that if i leave the computer in its frozen state after a certain amount of time it will unfreeze itself automatically? Ok then, but ive left it for 10 mins and it hasnt come out of its frozen state.
All i want is for my pc to not freeze when it d/c. It doesnt bother me that it does, as it always has since i joined this isp, but the fact that my pc now freezes when it occurs is annoying. THanks for your feedback.
So for such a high connection speed i should have command strings? Ahh k thanks ill try that.
