When I use NSLOOKUP to check/resolve MX records, I get a response :-

NSLOOKUP
>Default server : Local Host
>Address : 127.0.0.1

Is this OK?
If not, what should I do.

Doug

it's fine if you are on the DNS server, otherwise you can specify which server to use:

server servername.domain.com

No, this server uses an ordinary dial-up connection to an ISP so I think that it is wrong to be 127.0.0.1

So, please could you explain exactly where and how to change
it. I think should say :
>sbs-server.smallbusiness.local
>Address: 192.168.16.2

which are of course are my local settings.

Sorry but I'm new to this.

Many thanks

Doug

do you want to change the query server? if so just type server xx.xx.xx.xx

eg:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

U:\>nslookup
Default Server: cicdc1.chaltono.com
Address: 64.74.59.113

> server 207.10.170.201
Default Server: [207.10.170.201]
Address: 207.10.170.201 01110000

also if its MX records your trying to get you'll need to specify that.

>set querytype=mx

01110000
