interal failure:

error number: 0x80040707

I too am getting this error message and have found it extremely difficult to find an answer.

Hi,

Okay, I had a program that I really wanted to install and I kept getting this 0x80040707 error message. I couldn't find a way to fix the installer or to avoid the error message, but at least I found a method that allows you to install programs even if you are affected by the damn 0x80040707 bug. At least it worked for me, so you might want to give it a try:

1. Run the setup program and PAY ATTENTION to the folder where you are installing the software. Keep clicking on the "Next" button and here it is, the progress bar.

2. When the progress bar reaches 100% and you get the 0x80040707 error message, DO NOT click "Accept" or "Ok" or whatever says the button in the error window. Instead proceed as I describe:

3. Go to the the folder where the program is supposed to be installed. Yes, it's there!. Copy this folder to another location (for example, to the desktop).

4. Now click "Accept" or "Ok" in the 0x80040707 error window. This will erase almost every file in the folder where the program was originally installed. Who cares? You have a copy of it.

5. Now overwrite this almost-empty original installation folder with the one you backuped.

6. If you want you can even create manually a shortcut of the EXE file that launches the software wherever you like. Double click it. Does it work?

As I said, it worked perfectly for me. Hope it works for ya.

Good luck!

This method did not work for me. :(

I wish installshield or whoever is responsible for this darn bug would make a universal fix for it already. So many different people have found their own fixes yet I am sure the majority aren't getting helped. Ah welz. If anyone hears of any updates or fixes please let me know.

the docref #:DFEE-58US3H,ERROR OX80040707.I HAD THIS ERROR RECENTLY. NONE OF THE SOLUTIONS SUGGESTED BY SCANSOFT , MICROSOFT OR INSTALL SHIELD WAS THE CORRECT MESSAGE. I KNOW OF AT LEAST 2 CORRECT ANSWERS. THE OPERATING SYSTEM IS CORRUPT OR THE PROGRAM BEING INSTALLED IS STILL LISTED IN THE ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS BOX. I KNOW THIS IS SO BECAUSE I RECEIVED THE SAME ERROR MESSAGE WHEN TRYING TO INSTALL DELL RESOLUTION ASSISTANT. I WENT INTO THE REGISTERY AND REMOVED THE RESOLUTION ASSISTANT FROM THE ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS BOX AND THEN INSTALLED THE PROGRAM. THE RESOLUTION ASSISTANT HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO BE INSTALLED NOT BECAUSE THE PROGRAM WAS ON MY HARD DRIVE BUT BECAUSE THE PROGRAM WAS STILL LISTED. AS FOR THE OTHER REASON (CORRUPTED OPERATING SYSTEM), I HAD A DRIVER FOR MY DIRECT MEMORY ACCESS CONTROLLER THAT HAD ERROR CODE TWO. THE SUGGESTED FIX WAS TO REINSTALL THE DRIVER, WHICH WAS DONE BUT WITH THE SAME RESULT.....THE DRIVER IS BAD. THIS INFORMATION SHOULD BE MADE KNOWN. I SPENT QUITE SOME TIME TRYING TO FIX THE ERROR AT THE SITES I LISTED PREVIOUSLY. I AM NOT ASKING FOR HELP. I AM GIVING SOME GOOD ANSWERS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU INTEND TO SAY MAYBE CHECK THIS OR ATTACH IT TO YOUR LIST OF REASONS FOR THE ERROR 0X80040707.THANK YOU FOR YOU ATTENTION IN THIS MATTER . I HOPE I WAS HELPFUL.........BRIAN OSULLIVAN
